Evaluation
This year is the first year that the "Reform" has worked its way up to the high school level. The Reform refers to The Quebec Education Plan or QEP. This is a new document in which the Ministry gives guidelines for teachers on how structure curriculum and what criteria to evaluate in grading situations. Students in grade 7 & 8 are now considered in "Secondary Cycle One". Students in grade 9 and 10 are also being marked with the same form of evaluation, but are considered in Secondary Cycle Two.
Our students are being marked on the same criteria they always have been in the arts, only on this report card it is printed differently. The students are graded according to "competencies" which breaks down the areas covered by the course. They are different in every course, and each competency is not always weighted the same. In some terms, some competencies may not be evaluated.
